Work has commenced on the construction of a new £6M primary school and nursery by the contractor company J Tomlinson in the Worcestershire town of Redditch.
The new school is currently being constructed as a part of the Brockhill East development and will cover an area of approximately 2,000sq m over two-storeys, allowing the school to accommodate 26 nursery students and primary school students between school years one to four.
Worcestershire County Council enlisted the services of the property development company Place Partnership, who manage development projects for a number of public bodies, who, in turn, appointed J Tomlinson as the main contractor for the construction of the new school.
The new school will replace the previous Holyoakes Field First School and Nursery to provide the local community with educational facilities that are modern and meet environmental BREEAM ‘Very Good’ standards.
The Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, Councillor Marcus Hart stated: “This location provides a great improvement over the schools’ current site. This new building will provide an excellent learning environment for the students attending the primary school and those children attending the nursery class.”
A representative of the Place Partnership, Alan Moutter added: “We work with schools across the region and it’s always a great moment to see the start of work on a development. J Tomlinson has extensive experience in the education sector and we are confident that they will deliver a great new school for Redditch.”
The Managing Director of Construction at J Tomlinson, Darroch Baker concluded: “The new school building will be purpose-built around the needs of the students and teachers and has been designed to ensure that it is sustainable and environmentally friendly. We will now be working closely with Place Partnership and Worcestershire County Council in the delivery of these new school facilities.”
