HS2 Euston signs new contractors
- March 13, 2019

The works at the HS2 Euston site will be completed by a Mace/Dragados joint venture.

The new contract will focus on coordinating the building of the new HS2 Euston station, the platforms, concourse, and links to the London underground. Mace/Dragados was chosen alongside early works contractor Costain/Skanska after a 19-month procurement process.

Demolitions are already underway at the station, along with ecological work and the HS2 archaeology programme. Two new bore tunnels will connect the station with the planned Old Oak Common station and towards the Midlands.

HS2 Ltd Chief Executive Mark Thurston said: “Mace and Dragados have a strong track record of delivering some of the world’s most challenging and exciting infrastructure projects and we’re delighted that they’re joining the HS2 team as our Construction Partner for Euston.”

“Together, we will deliver a new landmark station that will be the London gateway to HS2, transforming the way we travel and setting new standards for design, construction and operation.”

A plan has been set for the wider Euston site to improve the economy of the area, with the government hoping to support new homes, jobs, public spaces, and businesses. When completed, HS2 is planned to connect 30 million people across 25 destinations, with phase 1 connecting Birmingham and London.

Mace and Dragados have previously worked on large-scale infrastructure projects like the Battersea Power Station, Mumbai International Airport, and the Spanish high-speed rail network including Madrid Atocha and Barcelona Sants stations. Over 1000 people are already at work across London preparing for the new rail network.
