Homes England to fund Havant Borough campus development
- March 21, 2019

A new £3.4million fund from Homes England will help build a state-of-the-art campus development in Havant.

The campus development will feature 121 new apartments close to the town centre and rail transport. The work comes as part of Havant Borough Council’s regeneration plans for the town centre, including the proposed Havant Plaza area development.

The funding comes from Homes England with the government’s £450million Local Authority Accelerated Construction Programme fund. The new homes will be created on the surface car parks at the Civic Campus.

Councillor Tim Pike, Deputy Leader of Havant Borough Council and Cabinet Lead for Finance and Regeneration, said: “We are delighted to receive this funding from Homes England that will kick start Havant Borough Council’s regeneration plans.”

“The civic campus site has great potential. Its transformation will be a game-changer for our borough delivering new homes, construction jobs and economic growth. I believe it is the start of a regeneration programme that will deliver future prosperity right across our borough.”

Current parking facilities will be relocated to a new multi-storey car park to be constructed nearby. The new homes will be designed to be energy efficient and will utilise modern construction methods including offsite construction.

The site, currently a one-hectare surface level car park used by the council, is well located for the council offices, the town centre, and transport. The new plans reflect the government’s targets to create thousands of new homes across the country using modern and energy efficient methods and designs.

Offsite construction prioritises creating elements of a build away from the main site and delivering them, thereby reducing time and cost. Green construction is another priority for the government, using low carbon methods for power, water, and waste management in the design of homes.
