Help with business rates for small retail premises
Heather Church - April 1, 2014

Enfield Council is urging smaller retailers to apply for a new Discretionary Rate Relief of up to £1,000 in each of the financial years 2014-15 and 2015-16.

The Council agreed in February to include the relief in its Discretionary Rate Relief Policy.

In order to qualify retail premises must be occupied, have a rateable value of less than £50,000 and are wholly or mainly being used as shops, restaurants, cafes and drinking establishments.

Cllr Andrew Stafford, Cabinet Member for Finance and Property for Enfield Council said:

“Enfield Council is a Council that does all it can to support businesses of all sizes, but recognises that smaller business sometimes need a little extra help.

The Council is absolutely committed to creating a thriving and successful retail sector and supporting small businesses is a key part of that strategy.

These companies create, jobs, wealth and opportunity for residents, businesses and the council, and we’re doing everything we can to support our retail outlets so they can be as profitable and successful as possible because it benefits everyone in the long run.”
