Capita selected by Highways England
Dean White - August 18, 2015

Highways England has selected Capita, in collaboration with Mott MacDonald, to provide a replacement asset management system and associated consultancy services for its roadside technology maintenance teams, alongside continued operation of its traffic management central logging and information services.

The Streamlined Data Services (SDS) Lite contract is worth nearly £4 million over 15 months.

Capita’s property and infrastructure business will deliver the new asset management system by July 2016, enabling technology service maintenance providers to offer tailored reporting on asset performance and use their own devices to maintain roadside assets located on motorways and all-purpose roads throughout England.

Supported by Capita’s asset management platform OPENAssets, Highways England will benefit from a fully hosted solution which will enhance existing systems with the introduction of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) capability, supporting Apple IOS, Google Android and Windows Mobile 8.1.

OPENAssets allows Highways England to manage their technology assets, provide information to maintenance contractors, monitor faults and repairs, and manage maintenance scheduling in one place. Highways technology maintenance service providers in turn will be able to:

  • Collect data and report highways issues at their source;
  • Allocate tasks to staff;
  • Create customised maintenance profiles;
  • And give customer services staff and service managers access to the same information as that collected by and sent to mobile workers.

Mott MacDonald’s transport technology services team will continue to support the HALOGEN central logging system and the new Capita asset management platform, maintaining the services which provide historical reporting and real-time information on Highways England’s technology assets to stakeholders.

Simon Reeves, director of Capita Technology, part of Capita’s property and infrastructure business, said:

“By enhancing and modernising the asset management system and introducing BYOD, Capita will support Highways England’s goal of improving efficiency and service.

We will be working closely with Highways England to ensure the move to bring your own device is introduced as seamlessly as possible, and helps make managing the technology estate more effective and more flexible for its technology maintenance teams.”
