£45m Wales Campus Opens

Cardiff and Vale College in the centre of the capital has been heralded as an ‘inspirational development’ by First Minister of Wales Carwyn Jones.

The new development will allow the college to provide additional teaching capacity for highly sought after science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects; improved Welsh medium provision in vocational subjects; Higher Education Foundation Degrees as well as facilities for the local community.

First Minister Carwyn Jones said:“This is what the future of further education looks like in Wales

“This new City Centre campus is truly an inspirational development which will give learners in Wales access to a wide ranging, flexible curriculum in a world class learning environment.

“This is a college with learner success firmly in its sights. I’m sure that it will continue to inspire learners for many years to come.”

Education Minister Huw Lewis said: “This is yet another example of the Welsh Government putting its money where its mouth is and investing in exceptional education facilities for our learners.

“This new campus is a great illustration of government working in partnership with a college to deliver a project of this calibre. Modern and vibrant, this new college, built with £20m of Welsh Government funding, is providing a learning environment for the 21st Century. It will inspire its students while benefiting the local community long into the future.”

Cardiff and Vale College Principal and Chief Executive Mike James said: “I am delighted to be able to welcome First Minister Carwyn Jones and Minister for Education Huw Lewis to our new City Centre Campus.
