DELIVERING SOCIAL VALUE
The ambition is to build more than a power station. It’s to make a material, positive contribution to local employment, skills and businesses, becoming a catalyst for long-term change.
At Sizewell C, we’re doing all we can to make sure that we create the right environment where everyone understands, respects and embraces diversity. Our Diversity and Inclusion Charter is a public agreement to observe key principles and conscious practice – it’s essential to reflect the society we serve today and in the future.
The Gender Balance Network was launched in March 2019 followed by Pride, United in Race Equality and Disabilities, Carers & Parents Networks in September 2020. We also have a Mental Health Support Group. There is no membership to our Networks – everyone working here is a member.
SZC networksSizewell C will build on HPC’s achievements to increase its socio-economic benefits
Like Hinkley Point C, Sizewell C will create thousands of job opportunities, apprenticeships and high levels of spend during construction and the operational life of the project. However, there is an ambition to build even further on HPC’s significant benefits. For example, currently 64% of HPC’s construction contracts go to UK companies. Sizewell C is committed to increasing this proportion to around 70%, creating more jobs and more opportunities for British workers and British businesses.
Working with the local community of Leiston to engineer Net Zero: an open-source route map for other towns and community engagement
Together, members of the community and Sizewell C have created a bold initiative: to take Leiston to Net Zero by 2035. The ambitions of this programme include addressing fuel poverty and social mobility in the town, creating a showcase that can be replicated elsewhere and helping the region achieve its carbon ambitions.
Sizewell C will improve the UK’s nuclear skills capacity
Hinkley Point C has revived the UK’s nuclear industry and Sizewell C can help maintain this resurgence. Sizewell C will strengthen the UK’s nuclear skills base and capacity, supporting EDF’s plans to form a UK engineering centre. These will help give the UK the strategic capability to meet the specialist requirements of nuclear construction and operation, supporting further large new builds, as well as small and advanced modular reactors.

INTELLIGENT REPLICATION PRINCIPLES
The project needs to secure and demonstrate value for money for consumers through strong management of the intelligent replication of Hinkley Point C (HPC).
By duplicating HPC’s detailed design and adopting a systematic approach to capturing, quantifying and applying lessons learned, Sizewell C will maximise the value gained from a ‘Second of a Kind’ (SOAK) effect, taking advantage of construction experience and many years of design input and detailed regulatory review.
The replication strategy is based on duplicating the final HPC design used for construction and erection. Sizewell C documentation will be based on the most mature state available from HPC, in line with the Sizewell C schedule.
In order to maximise the benefit of an intelligent replication from HPC to Sizewell C, the main principles of replication are:
