UK Parliament is custodian to one of the most recognised buildings in the world, the Grade 1 Listed and UNESCO World Heritage Site Palace of Westminster. In addition to this is the Northern Estate, a suite of buildings including the listed Norman Shaw North and modern Portcullis House which provide additional space, offices and meeting rooms for Parliamentary business. Together this makes up the Parliamentary Estate.
As a bicameral organisation, the administration, services and maintenance of the Parliamentary Estate is managed by the House of Commons Commission and House of Lords Commission. Below these is the Commons Executive Board, chaired by the Clerk of the House which drives the budgets and programmes to maintain the Estate, mostly delivered by the Strategic Estates team who sit within the House of Commons.
Strategic Estates are leading on key projects to safeguard the future of the Palace of Westminster and the wider Estate for generations to come. These include the refurbishment of the Elizabeth Tower, the Cast Iron Roofs project and the Mechanical Electrical Public Health & Fabric Safety (MEPFS) Programme.
