chain, led by Altrad.\" width=\"1593\" height=\"1406\" \/>Youngsters at a West Cumbrian school are going to benefit from an outdoor \u2018wellbeing room\u2019 and sensory garden, thanks to members of our supply chain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"noSpacingAbove spacingBelow\">Altrad Babcock agreed to adopt the Cleator Moor and Egremont (CLEG) Cluster and work with the schools in the area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"noSpacingAbove spacingBelow\">So when the head of Bookwell School, in Egremont, Russell Hardy, asked for help in planning, costing and project managing the installation of an outdoor learning cabin and surrounding landscaping, they were only too happy to help.<\/p>\n<p class=\"noSpacingAbove spacingBelow\">The challenge was to create an outdoor \u2018well-being room\u2019 and sensory garden primarily designed for children with additional needs, or those that need time away from the classroom setting to learn best.<\/p>\n<p class=\"noSpacingAbove spacingBelow\">Altrad office manager, Abbie Short, coordinated the project, supported by multiple local contractors and suppliers.<\/p>\n<h3>Work begins<\/h3>\n<div class=\"a_a_50a7110f g_a_50a7110f CanvasSection CanvasSection-col CanvasSection-sm12 CanvasSection--read CanvasSection-xl8\" data-automation-id=\"CanvasSection\">\n<div id=\"7fc3331c-d6cc-4b6c-a721-be3f81b8831b\" class=\"ControlZone ControlZone--clean a_f_50a7110f\" data-automation-id=\"CanvasControl\">\n<div class=\"ControlZone--control\">\n<div class=\"rte-webpart rte--ck5 rte--read-ck5 rte--paragraphSpacing rte--headingSpacing rte--indentation LightMode rte--list-rtl css-340\" dir=\"auto\" data-sp-feature-tag=\"Rich Text Editor\" data-sp-feature-instance-id=\"7fc3331c-d6cc-4b6c-a721-be3f81b8831b\">\n<div class=\"ck-content rteEmphasis root-339 css-155 fixFocusIndicator\" data-automation-id=\"textBox\">\n<p class=\"noSpacingAbove spacingBelow\" data-text-type=\"withSpacing\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-953\" src=\"http:\/\/www.competefor.com\/sellafield\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/36\/2025\/04\/bookwell1.jpeg\" alt=\"Work underway at Bookwell School\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/>Sir Robert McAlpine (SRM) provided health and safety advice and did ground surveys before work began.<\/p>\n<p class=\"noSpacingAbove spacingBelow\" data-text-type=\"withSpacing\">Then Lawsons and PCR came in to strip the area to level and entered the subbase pre concrete works.<\/p>\n<p class=\"noSpacingAbove spacingBelow\">SRM then created shuttering and poured concrete (provided by Hansens) to create a base for structures and disabled access.<\/p>\n<p class=\"noSpacingAbove spacingBelow\">Altrad then assembled the cabin (wellbeing room) and external contractors came in to plaster the cabin and fit electrics.<\/p>\n<p class=\"noSpacingAbove spacingBelow\" data-text-type=\"withSpacing\">Altrad also painted the internals and a joiner fitted the flooring and skirting boards, ready for use.<\/p>\n<p class=\"noSpacingAbove spacingBelow\">Abbie Short said:\u00a0\u201cIt was so good to work so smoothly together with all of the contractors and suppliers and everybody\u2019s attitude to the project was amazing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"noSpacingAbove spacingBelow\">\u201cIt feels all the more meaningful seeing how much this means to the school and hearing how it will benefit all the pupils and staff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"noSpacingAbove spacingBelow\" data-text-type=\"withSpacing\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-954\" src=\"http:\/\/www.competefor.com\/sellafield\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/36\/2025\/04\/bookwell3.jpeg\" alt=\"Inside the wellbeing cabin at Bookwell\" width=\"400\" height=\"298\" \/>Bookwell Primary School deputy head and wellbeing lead, Shona Wolfenden, added:\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re all very excited about our new space!\u00a0 We can\u2019t believe how quickly it\u2019s come together, with very little fuss or disruption.\u00a0 If only all school projects ran as smoothly!<\/p>\n<p class=\"noSpacingAbove spacingBelow\">\u201cThe cabin is going to make a huge difference to the children as we will have an extra place to work with groups doing music, crafts, listening to stories or just having some quiet time away from the busy classroom.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"noSpacingAbove spacingBelow\">Work still ongoing<\/h3>\n<p class=\"noSpacingAbove spacingBelow\">Work is still currently ongoing on this project to create the second phase, the sensory garden which includes a decking area, pathway, flower beds for the children to maintain and a reading realm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"noSpacingAbove spacingBelow\">This work is currently underway by Altrad with the support of Mossop Construction Ltd and a number of other suppliers and contractors: \u00a0Sir Robert McAlpine, Lawsons, PC Richardson, Hanson\u2019s Concrete, JT Atkinsons, Bewleys Electrical, Karl Hartley Plastering, Jewson\u2019s, Phillip Carruthers Haulage, AS Design, Jacksons Timber, MKM, who have all worked collaboratively to follow through on this project.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To see our latest volunteering
